The ventilation available with suspended subflooring prevents moisture damage to the flooring

Whether you are expanding or envisioning an entire new floor, suspended subflooring can add longevity and protection to your newly redesigned area. A suspended subfloor is slabs typically made of concrete and steel mesh in commercial buildings. To avoid direct contact with the terrain, suspended subflooring is above ground level or used as a ground floor to even out a hilly area. Unlike other methods, suspended subflooring will control the moisture throughout the structure. When installing, there must be 18 inches of space in between the slab and the joists, or horizontal supporting beams, so moisture does not accumulate beneath the wood. This ventilation will prevent wood’s worst nightmare: Rotting, expansion, contracting and other harmful effects that would eventually deteriorate the flooring. Acclimation, or the floor's adjustment to the moisture and humidity in a new environment, should be completed in the enclosed building five days before installation by using air conditioning and/or heating. The flooring material should also be kept in a climate controlled area to avoid moisture and humidity damage. The stable and level subfloor will increase the durability and overall life of the finished floor. Using suspended flooring during your next project will not only give your decorative flooring proper ventilation but also give it the ability to withstand heavy traffic for years to come.
