In today’s market, rift-cut White Oak means a lot of different things. Whether used for flooring, stair treads, or veneer panels, it is extremely popular for commercial specifications due to its linear grain pattern and clean lines. The surge in demand for it has caused reliable supplies of Rift WO lumber to literally dry up. The reality is, the vast majority of rift cut WO currently being sold does not meet the true standards for rift specifications.
Knowing this, Woodwright refuses to provide sampling and project materials that do not meet our standards or those our clients have come to expect. Over the past 35 years, we have recommended and promoted the use of 5/8” engineered flooring products with a minimum 4mm wear layer on commercial projects. This allows for multiple re-sandings over the life of the wood floor while keeping the elevations in check.
As circumstances have changed, Woodwright has recently adjusted our product offering of engineered rift White Oak to a 3mm wear layer platform. With proper floor installation, this modified wear layer will still offer significant re-sandability while maintaining the look of a true Rift White Oak material.
We are confident this pivot will ensure the design aesthetic that our clients expect when they see the Woodwright name. After all, our new Premium Rift Cut White Oak is sourced from veneer quality logs which offer the following benefits.
Excellent Color with minimal variation
Straight Grain with minimal grain swings
3mm “dry sawn” wear layer – same as before
Available in 3”, 4”, 5”, 6” and 7” widths
Sustainable manufacturing and shop finishing methods remain the same also.
Available upon request with FSC and Floorscore certification as well as an HPD v2.2
As a leading hardwood manufacturer based in Dallas Texas, Woodwright produces mostly “project specific materials” and will continue to provide and recommend a 4mm wear layer on all other species and cuts we manufacture and custom shop finish.
